Woodcraft Rangers, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit offering comprehensive after school programs to more than 60 schools, parks and community centers, is proud to announce Julee Brooks as their incoming Chief Executive Officer succeeding interim CEO John Schauweker.
“On behalf of the Board, we are thrilled to have Julee as our next CEO,” said Jonathan Sweet, Vice President Elect and Treasurer of the Board of Directors. “She has the vision, passion and knowledge to elevate the Woodcraft Rangers organization.”
Ms. Brooks is a strategic leader with nearly 20 years of experience guiding nonprofit organizations through dynamic organizational growth. Her many accomplishments include bolstering fundraising by engaging support of strategic partners, foundations and individual supporters, elevating and expanding programs, and strengthening organizations through effective brand building. Additionally, Ms. Brooks has been instrumental in leading Boards in their strategic planning processes.
“It is such a privilege to partner with the Board and staff of Woodcraft Rangers in this next chapter,” said Ms. Brooks. “I am honored to join an organization with such a rich legacy and grateful for the opportunity to build upon nearly 100 years of extraordinary service to the youth of Los Angeles.”
Envision Consulting (Envision), a Pasadena-based nonprofit consulting firm, was retained to conduct the CEO search. After receiving more than 200 applications, recruiting more than 25 and hand-picked professionals, Envision selected four strong candidates to present to the Board.
“Julee’s experience and outstanding resume speaks for itself,” Partner Matt Kamin Matt Kamin said. “She is an outstanding professional who will take Woodcraft Rangers to new heights, increasing their visibility further positively impacting the lives of students.”
Ms. Brooks obtained her Bachelor’s degree from Centre College in Dramatic Arts and Government, and her Master of Fine Arts degree from University of North Carolina in Theatre for Youth.

New Horizons, a San Fernando Valley-based nonprofit organization that empowers individuals with developmental disabilities through job training and placement, education, counseling, residential services and social programs, is pleased to announce John Brauer as the organization’s incoming CEO. John will succeed long time CEO Cynthia Sewel, who retired in 2017, after more than 28 years with the organization. COO Roschell Ashley has led the organization as interim since July.
“Roschell’s contribution to the organization has been influential and the Board is appreciative of all her hard work,” said Board Chair John Bunzel. “We are excited to bring John on board with his extensive experience working with the developmentally disabled community. We believe in his ability to take New Horizons to the next level of growth and impact.”
With 25 years’ experience in the nonprofit sector at organizations, including NW Works, Inc., Community Vocational Enterprises and Union Station Homeless Services, Mr. Brauer has managed both large and small staff and created several successful social enterprises. John has committed his career to elevating the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities through life enriching programs and services. Additionally, he has worked with State Senators on numerous advocacy and funding projects, and developed strategic partnerships with more than 75 health and community partners to ensure full wraparound services for his clients.
“New Horizons’ work with individuals with developmental disabilities is unparalleled,” said Mr. Brauer. “I’m honored to lead this organization in this next phase.”
New Horizons retained Envision Consulting to conduct the CEO search. Hundreds of applicants across the United States applied for the position, were screened and put through a rigorous interview process.
“Envision is very passionate about helping communities with persons with special needs and it was an honor to place New Horizon’s incoming CEO,” said Partner Matt Kamin.
Mr. Brauer obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from John F. Kennedy University.

Tenemos que Reclamar y Unidos Salvar la Tierra (T.R.U.S.T. South LA), a community controlled organization that is dedicated to building the economic and political power of residents in South Los Angeles, is proud to announce the appointment of Josefina Aguilar as its incoming Executive Director. Josefina will be replacing interim Executive Director Adrienne Snider.
“Josefina is a community organizer who truly understands the cultural dynamic and issues that affect South Los Angeles,” said Board Chair Benjamin Torres. “We’re excited to bring her into the fold and see her vision come to fruition for our organization and community.”
As an experienced city planner and urban developer, Josefina brings a depth of experience in the housing and development landscape. Josefina has more than 20 years’ experience and knowledge of affordable housing, has created resident-controlled housing units, developed policies and procedures, managed government contracts, oversaw city housing programs and cultivated relationships with elected officials.
“I have a personal connection to South Los Angeles and the community,” said Ms. Aguilar. “The mission of T.R.U.S.T. South LA is aligned with my personal priorities as a community planner of more than 20 years, and I’m eager to roll up my sleeves and dig into the work.”
Envision Consulting (Envision), a Los Angeles-based nonprofit consulting firm, was retained to conduct the Executive Director search. Envision sourced and recruited professionals from the Greater Los Angeles area who were familiar with the South LA landscape and experienced in housing and community organizing.
“To help guide and assist T.R.U.S.T. South LA in their search for Executive Director was truly impactful,” Partner Allison Fuller stated. “Josefina’s experience, knowledge of South LA and vision will bring the organization forward and make a difference in the lives of the residents who live in this community.”
Josefina graduated from California State University, Northridge cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts, and her Master of Arts from University of California, Los Angeles in urban planning.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by fires in Southern California, especially in Los Angeles, Ventura and Santa Barbara County. Here are ways you can aid victims in need:
The United Way of Ventura County, American Red Cross of Ventura County and Ventura County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services have established the Thomas Fire Fund. To donate, you can make a gift online, text UWVC to 41444 or call 805-485-6288. Checks with “Thomas Fire Fund” in the memo line can be mailed to 702 County Square Drive, Suite 100, Ventura, CA 93003.
Many pets and other animals have been affected by the fires. Ventura County Animal Services is coordinating animal evacuation shelters. Their wish list is currently filled, but you can make monetary donations.
The Humane Society of Ventura County is in need of monetary donations after taking in many animals since the fires began. You can donate to the Thomas Fire Animal Fund to pay for the care of animals displaced by the Thomas Fire at humanesociety.nationbuilder.com/thomasfire.
The Salvation Army Ventura Corps is at the Ventura County Fairgrounds supporting evacuees. They do not need additional in-kind donations at this time, but they are accepting monetary donations for Ventura and all of Southern California affected by the fires, which can be made by calling 1-800-SAL-ARMY or visiting the organization’s website.
Donate to Noah's Legacy Fund, which provides supplies, training, and equipment to first responders charged with rescuing animals from areas stricken by natural disasters. Mail donations to P.O. Box 100515, Pasadena, CA 91189-0515 or through the LACACF website.
The Ventura County Community Foundation supports organizations providing shelter and long-term housing, legal services, education, healthcare and other immediate and long-term needs of those affected by the Thomas Fire. To support immediate needs, contributions should be directed to the "Sudden and Urgent Needs" Fund. To support mid-term to long-term needs, contributions should be directed to the "Disaster Relief" Fund. In addition to online donations, you can also make a gift by check payable to Ventura County Community Foundation and mail to VCCF, 4001 Mission Oaks Blvd, Suite A, Camarillo, CA 93012. Please note which fund you want to support in memo line.
Volunteers are needed to help communities affected by fires. Volunteer work ranges from phone calls, data entry and client registration, to shelter support and supply replenishment. With seven shelters open, the following shelters, in order of priority, need the most help: Oxnard College, UC Santa Barbara, and Ventura County Fairgrounds.
Catholic Charities of Los Angeles is accepting items from their wish list for families displaced by the Thomas Fire. Donations can be dropped off at Catholic Charities' Ventura Community Services Center at 303 N. Ventura Ave. Ventura, CA 93001. The charity has also established a special fund to help offset the cost of home repairs.
The Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club is providing shelter to all horses needing evacuation from the Thomas Fire in Ventura County. Volunteers are needed to help feed, water and muck out the stables of the evacuated horses. The club is also requesting feed and barn supply donations. Those able to help can contact the Polo Club's Volunteer Coordinator Shannon McGraw at (805) 455-2400.
