    Working Wardrobes Announces New CEO, Bonni Pomush

    Los Angeles, CA –Working Wardrobes, an Orange County-based nonprofit that helps people overcome challenges so they can achieve the dignity of work and “The Power of a Paycheck,” has announced its selection of Bonni Pomush as its new CEO.

    Pomush, who has a master’s degree in Family Resources and Human Development from Arizona State University, worked for 15 years administering programs in government agencies before joining the nonprofit world in 2009. Among her notable successes, she has secured $6 million in capital campaign funding and $1 million annually in partnership with board members and volunteers.

    “Bonni Pomush is going to be the perfect leader to continue our mission, champion our programs and partner with clients we serve," said outgoing CEO of Working Wardrobes, Jerri Rosen who is set to retire after 31 years at the helm of the organization. “She is an engaging and dynamic leader who is committed to putting her strengths to work by being of service to the community. Her research and strengths-based leadership approach has resulted in the national accreditation of centers, turning around budgets, and retaining high quality employees by creating and implementing performance-based pay systems. I have been truly impressed by her passion and energy and have full confidence that we have found the right person to lead Working Wardrobes into the future.”  

    Pomush, who officially begins her tenure with Working Wardrobes on November 8, 2021, will assume the full responsibilities of CEO on January 1, 2022.

    Los Angeles, CA – Jaime Zavala has been named the new Executive Director of artworxLA, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization that combats the epidemic high school dropout crisis with a long-term, sequential arts program. As Executive Director, Zavala will oversee all programs and fund development efforts, as well as the fiscal health and structural soundness of the artworxLA, a $1.5 million organization serving approximately 1,000 students in 31 alternative high school classrooms in nine school districts annually.

    Upward Bound House Welcomes Kiara Payne, Director of Programs

    Los Angeles, CA – Upward Bound House, a nonprofit whose mission is to eliminate homelessness among families with children in Los Angeles, has named Kiara Payne as its new Director of Programs. Upward Bound House provides housing, supportive services, and advocacy, and operates programs in Santa Monica, Culver City, South Los Angeles and Compton.  

    Payne brings an extensive background in the social service industry, including in affordable housing property management and programs serving the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. Most recently, Payne served as Director of Programs at Ascencia, creating operational policies and procedures that allowed for continued and safe service delivery through the pandemic, working in collaboration with the City of Glendale, Homeless Services Division, the Department of Health Services, the Department of Public Health, and Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.

    “Everyone deserves a safe and affordable home and I am so excited to continue the fight against homelessness as the Director of Programs at Upward Bound House,” said Payne.

    As Director of Programs, Payne provides strategic leadership on program content, implementation and evaluation of programs, as well as oversees program operation. In this role, Payne also serves as an Upward Bound House regional representative, establishing and maintaining partnerships to advance the organization’s mission.

    AbilityFirst Welcomes Lauren Rayner as Chief Development Officer

    Los Angeles, CA – Pasadena based nonprofit, Young & Healthy, is pleased to announce the appointment of Rochelle Howard as its new Associate Director and Marie Mayen-Cho as Program Director. Young & Healthy is a leader in trauma-informed care and the go-to partner for in public health in and around Pasadena, connecting underserved children with free medical, dental and mental health services from volunteer doctors and helping families with insurance enrollment and navigation.

    Howard brings over 15 years of experience managing programs and projects serving underserved youth. Her roles have spanned administrative, fund development and programs, where she has managed program budgets, outcomes and staff, and has worked directly with children and families from culturally diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds. Howard most recently served as Senior Program Manager for Workforce and Career Development for Goodwill Industries of Southern California.

    “It is a great honor and privilege to be the next Associate Director at Young & Healthy. Young & Healthy is a staple in the greater Pasadena community, serving families faced with health insecurities. I first learned of the organization when my daughter received a handout about the importance of dental hygiene with an actual toothbrush and a daily schedule to brush her teeth.     Young & Healthy’s new Program Director, Marie Mayen-Cho, most recently served as Director of Community Education & Outreach at Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, as well as Director of Community Health Access & Promotion for the Center for Community Health Improvement at Providence Health & Services. She brings vast experience in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs serving culturally and linguistically diverse communities, improving health outcomes for vulnerable communities.
